The former Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan, Murat Bektanov, detained and vodvolate under custody after January events, faces imprisonment from seven to 15 years.This is reported by local media.

“Minister Bektanov did not show command qualities.Having at its disposal the army, which showed good results during the command and staff and military exercises, we could not take advantage of its potential in a critical situation and were forced to resort to help from outside, ”Tokaev said, explaining the introduction of the CSTO contingent.
The 56-year-old former Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan, Murat Bektanov, was detained on February 20, a month and a half after the bloody January events.Bektanov was arrested on charges of “inaction” during the January events.Bektanov was appointed to the post of Minister of Defense by decree of the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev in August 2021 after deadly explosions in a military warehouse in the Zhambyl region.Bektanov worked as the head of the Ministry of Defense for four months.
On January 19 of this year, Tokaev relieves Bektanov from his post, saying that he “did not show command qualities” during January events.
