Raikhan Serikbayevna, the mother of Bekeyev Abylaikhan, born in 1995, tearfully tells how her son was ill-treated by law enforcement officers, detained, and now illegally detained in a pre-trial detention center in Aktobe.
Abylaikhan’s mother does not hide the fact that Abylaikhan participated in a peaceful protest on January 5, 2022, in Aktobe, using his constitutional right to peaceful assembly. Abylaikhan wanted to support the Zhanaozen residents with their demands and went to the square.
On January 12, leaving the house with his wife, five SWAT officers with machine guns knocked Abylaikhan to the ground, twisted his hands, and took him to an unknown destination before that without introducing themselves, without providing any documents, and without allowing calling a lawyer.
Later, the family learned that he was very badly beaten at the Police Department on the same day. Transferred to a pre-trial detention center, Abylaikhan then reported being seriously ill after suffering torture and beatings. In January, he could not walk, his legs were broken, and his kidneys were broken.
“Mom, torture was impossible; I can’t walk. After being placed in jail, I was forced to incriminate myself,” Abylaikhan told his mother.
“Help free my son. He’s not a criminal. He was never and was not a member of any criminal organization. He’s just an ordinary guy who participated in a peaceful protest,” said Abylaikhan’s mother.
Abylaikhan is the only breadwinner in the family; he has a wife and children, a mother of 60 years, whom he cares for, and a sister with three children who live with him.
We call on citizens and entrepreneurs to participate in collecting assistance to pay for a lawyer for Bekeyev Abylaikhan, who suffered after the January events and to support those who are fighting for our freedom and rights.
