Yermek Kemekbaev, 42, died of four gunshot wounds (one to the head and three to the chest) on January 6, 2022, when he left with a friend to fill up his car. He received gunshot wounds near the central square in Almaty while driving a car. His friend was able to hide from the shots under the car’s seats, which were hit by many bullets. The family found the body on January 7 in the morgue. The authorities have opened a criminal case against Yermek Kemekbayev, whom they killed, summoning his grieving widow for interrogation, and coming home without warning, thereby frightening little children. According to the widow, Aktoty is interrogated as if she were the wife of a “terrorist,” asking questions: “Why did he go?” “Why was he quickly buried?” At the same time, the authorities threatened that they would arrest her if she gave false evidence. The authorities are not conducting the investigation transparently and objectively – the family does not know how the investigation is going.
