Yergenat Zhenisuly

Yerganat, born in 1997, was shot in the eye during a peaceful protest in Ustkamenogorsk in January 2022. Yerganat was hospitalized in the city hospital number 4. But the police took Yerganat from the hospital and took him to the detention center, where he, a wounded man, was beaten and tortured! Yerganat is still in jail today. According to his father, Zhenis Daidolla, Yerganat complains of kidney pain, and his right eye is 100 percent blind! Yerganat’s father demands the immediate release of his son and compensation for material and moral damage.

Below is a translation of Father Yerganat’s appeal:

My name is Daidolla Zhenis; I am a resident of the village of Zhanaozen, Zharma district of the East Kazakhstan region. I’m raising four kids. My eldest son is Zhenisula Yerganat born on July 6, 1997. He is in a pre-trial detention center in the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk. My son was brought to jail from city hospital #4, after which he was beaten and tortured. We found him in jail only 4-5 days after his detention. He said that both of his kidneys hurt and that he was kicked. We did not file a complaint about torture. He was shot in the eye, and now his eye can’t see 100%.

I ask you to stand up for my son. The lawyer works, but it does not give positive results. I ask you to help us. I demand compensation for moral and material damages, one of his eyes lost his vision by 100%, and he is in custody illegally. I ask not only for my son but for all the detained children. All parents cry and suffer greatly. I demand that everyone be acquitted, not tried; I want them all to be released.
