Ruslan Kalibekovich Nurkanov

I am Nurkanova Gulmira Zakerkyzy, wife of Ruslan Nurkanov. He was born in 1980 and is now a civil society activist. He was illegally detained in connection with the January events. On January 5, 2022, at noon, the probation officers monitored my husband; they detained him on the street, after which they subjected him to administrative arrest in the temporary holding facility for five days under Article 488.

On January 10, 2022, he left the detention center on Stakhanov Street, but he was taken without explanation to the Department of Internal Affairs of the Ulan district. He was on probation for one and a half years; the court decided to keep him in custody for the remaining three months and 13 days. His family was not notified of this decision; we did not know where he was, and we came to the city twice, searching for my husband.

After the trial, my husband was taken to Correctional Facility OV 156/1. There he was beaten, hit on the head, had his ribs broken, and other injuries were inflicted. Since then, I have not received any news about him, and only 23 days later, on February 2, 2022, the court allowed me to visit my husband for one hour. On the date, I saw that my husband’s face was swollen. But he said he was fine so I wouldn’t worry about him.

On February 7, 2022, the court considered the appeal, and my husband was transferred to Institution OG 156/3. There was a blade placed on him, and he was moved to a disciplinary detention center (DIZO). He is still in cold solitary confinement in the DIZO. He is constantly subjected to psychological pressure by the staff of the Institution. Under this torture, my husband is on the verge of a breakdown. My husband is not an extremist. I demand the release of my husband. He did not reach the rally and is being prosecuted illegally.
