Tugelbayev Mukhit participated in a peaceful rally on January 5, 2022. At the rally, he recorded himself on video, where he said: “Let’s support Zhanaozen! At the Spartak stadium we gathered 4 thousand people! Let’s come out as a people and be together!”

On January 6, 2022, Muhit went to the probation inspector to check in. On the way, he was grabbed by two people who checked his phone. They twisted his arms behind his back and took him to the police station.

Mukhit’s mother, Saule Imangozhina, could not find her son for a long time. No one said where he was. Wherever they went, police enforcers talked about Operation “Capture,” wouldn’t let them in, and pushed them away with pistols and machine guns.

On January 24, 2022, Saule Imangozhina wrote a statement about her son’s disappearance to the prosecutor’s office of the city of Semey.

On January 26, 2022, Saule received an answer that Mukhit is in the IVS on charges of 4 articles: 272 part 2 (Participation in mass riots), 380 part 3 (Attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer, special state body, serviceman), 255 part 2 (Act of terrorism), 200 part 4 (Unlawful seizure of a car or other vehicle without the purpose of theft).

It wasn’t until January 27, 2022, that Saule was able to get a visit with her son. Although many days have passed since the arrest.

Muhit told his mother about the horrific torture that had been used against him. From 6-9 January 2022, Muhit and other detainees were beaten and tortured, held in a cold basement, and forced to urinate in their pants. They beat them for a long time, until loss of  consciousness. They forced them to sign some papers. Then the beaten were forced to hold batons in their hands and were photographed.
