Koibas Gulnabat Abbaskyzy talks about the persecution of her son #NarymbetovErganat Meriambekovich – how KNB officers planted weapons in his apartment, detained him and are now persecuting him for alleged “Illegal acquisition and storage of weapons”. Thus, the Kazakh authorities are molding civilians into “militants” by fabricating criminal cases.

“My name is Koibas Gulnabat Abbaskyzy, I am a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan. I address this video to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. My son Narymbetov Yerganat Meirambekovich, year of birth 1991.

KNB officers planted weapons in his apartment and detained him. My son is not guilty.

On January 16, 2022, my son and his wife Duisembayev Aidana Yerlankyzy went to the Flea Market in Almaty. At the bazaar, they noticed that they were being watched by two people unknown to them. After leaving the bazaar, they headed to the Auezov department of internal affairs (ROVD). While they were writing a statement, these two unknown people arrived at the department. My son pointed them out and they were detained by the police. After Yerganat and Aidana wrote the statements, they were told they were free and could go home. Aidana asked about the whereabouts of two unknown persons, to which she received the answer that they were being interrogated.

My son decided to buy water at the store across the street. As he was crossing the road, two cars stopped at a traffic light. People from the car twisted his hands and put him on the ground. They checked his pockets and dragged him into the car. They put his wife in another car. They were both brought to their home. As they approached the house, they saw those two unknown people who were watching them. There were four cars in the yard. The wife’s keys to the house were taken away and were left to sit in the car. These people were in the apartment for about 10 minutes and during this time, I think, they managed to put weapons there. Then they took my son into the apartment.

My son lives in a one-room dormitory of 13 square meters. 7-8 men in black uniforms with assault rifles came with him. His wife was not allowed to enter the apartment. They searched the entire apartment and found weapons there. When they made the video, they brought in my son’s wife. According to her, Yerganat, when recording the video, said that these weapons did not belong to him, that they were not there when they left the house. Police officers told Aidana that they were taking Yerganat to the karasai batyr police station. Aidana went there, but she was informed that her husband was not there. For three days we couldn’t find him.

On January 18, 2022, three days later, we were contacted by a state attorney. He reported that Narymbetov Yerganat was detained and charged under Article 287 part 4 [Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of weapons, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy or repeatedly].

The next day we met with this lawyer, who reported that my son’s face had signs of beatings, but he did not give a confession. Since then, we have tried to call this lawyer again, but he constantly says that he is busy and has no time. We do not have the opportunity to visit Yerganat and bring him food. The spouse is not allowed to see him. Yerganat is now in the KNB detention facility.

Aidana was cleaning the house and found the material in which the weapon was wrapped, and two packages. It was all recorded on video. We have copies of the statement Aidana and Yerganat wrote at ROVD.

They have a 4-year-old daughter. How do these people imagine that with a small child in an apartment of 13 sq.m. they can keep weapons? I don’t get it.
