Dulat, the son of Bakytzhan Myrzabayevich, was threatened and tortured in front of his parents’ eyes when police officers broke into their homes on January 10.
Father: “At 2:30 in the morning, they came, threatening with pistols; they took my son. He had previously been shot in the leg in the square. Then, saying that there was no lawyer, they beat him before his arrival and forced him to confess, signing a case he did not commit. Accused with Article 272 part 2 (“Mass riots”), there was no evidence or witnesses.
I recently saw him; he said they beat him, tortured him, and forced him to confess and put a signature. In jail, my leg still hasn’t recovered, swollen. We demand that it be released with nothing more to add.
Mom: “We demand to let him out! He went to a peaceful rally, and my heart aches. In front of my eyes, my son was beaten, yelled at, and taken away. I’ve never seen anything like this, my son taken away from me so.
