Akzhol Kilybayev

The young father, the breadwinner of the family, a man who never stopped smiling – Kilybayev Akzhol Askaruly born in 1996, unable to stand torture, humiliation by law enforcement officers and under fear of possible arrest, committed suicide. Akzhol hanged himself in his own house.

What Akjol could be experiencing at that moment, we can only guess… what could have prompted the father of a 4-year-old child to take such a step, what horror and fear he experienced after the January protests, that at the age of 25 he decided to pass away?

Akzhol was at a peaceful protest in Semey on January 5. Akim of Karaul village gave police officers a list of those activists who came to the akimat with peaceful demands, expressing solidarity with the residents of Zhanaozen and in this list was Kilybayev Akzhol.

After that, Akzhol was summoned to the police station, for 5 hours he was beaten, tortured, and later released home, ordered to collect his belongings, and that he would be taken to the Oskemen pre-trial detention center tomorrow.

Akjol came home and hanged himself…
